How independent testing works

A controlled process makes every number easier to understand, compare and trace back to a named protocol.

Prepare the challenge water

The laboratory adds a measured concentration of each target contaminant to controlled source water. Temperature, pH, pressure and flow are recorded so every test can be repeated under the same conditions.

Run the complete cartridge cycle

Challenge water passes through a new cartridge in the housing it is designed for. Samples are taken at defined intervals, including near the rated capacity, to measure how performance changes through its service life.

Measure and independently verify

Accredited analytical methods compare the water before and after filtration. Results are reported as concentrations, percentage reduction or log reduction, then checked against the requirements of the named test protocol.

Publish results with clear status

Certified, independently lab-tested and in-progress results are labelled separately. Complete reports and supporting references can be requested from the euroguard team.

Questions about the results

Are euroguard filters NSF certified?

The activated carbon in every cartridge is certified by NSF International to NSF/ANSI 42 (chlorine, taste and odour) and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 (lead content). Health-contaminant results to NSF/ANSI 53 and 401 come from testing to those protocols at IAPMO R&T, an ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory, and are shown as lab-tested rather than certified.

Why do the cartridges show different results?

Because they are different filters. A carbon block handles chlorine, PFAS, lead and organics. A ceramic shell or UF membrane adds bacteria and cysts. Activated alumina adds fluoride. Anti-scale resin adds hardness. The table only shows a claim where the cartridge has the stage that makes it, so a carbon-only cartridge never lists bacteria as pending.

Can I trust the microbiological claims on well water?

The ceramic and UF cartridges are tested against bacteria and cysts, and the TriCera™ Fluoride is designed for well and spring water. For well water with a high bacterial load, test the source first and use two cartridges. No cartridge on this page claims virus reduction unless the table says so.

What does log 6 or 99.9999% mean?

A log reduction is a power of ten. Log 3 is 99.9%, log 4 is 99.99%, log 6 is 99.9999%: one organism in a million gets through. Laboratories report bacteria this way because the challenge water contains millions of organisms per litre.

Yes. Report numbers are listed on each cartridge's panel above, and we email the full documents on request.

Important testing information

Testing was carried out under controlled laboratory conditions on new cartridges in euroguard housings. Contaminants were added to the challenge water at the concentrations shown and measured after filtration. Performance in your home depends on your water, the age of the cartridge and how the system is used. Not all contaminants listed will be present in your water. Gravity and tap cartridges without a ceramic or UF stage are intended for municipally treated water; ceramic and UF cartridges tested against bacteria and cysts may be used with water of unknown microbiological quality only as stated on the product page. Where no NSF/ANSI protocol exists for a contaminant, the laboratory's accredited method is stated in the report. Certification listings can be verified on the certifying body's public database.
